Playbook · Subscriptions & renewals
Cancel or renegotiate. One phone call, on your leash.
Forward the welcome email to Handfast. We read the plan, draft the script, and — once you say go — dial the retention line on your behalf. Timestamped transcript, one-line receipt, nothing charged without your “yes.”
When this playbook applies
Three things we need. Nothing more.
Built for ordinary consumer subscriptions you want to end — or renegotiate before renewal. Not for B2B contracts, telecom postpaid accounts, or anything that needs a notarized letter.
A subscription you want to end
A monthly or annual plan you no longer use — streaming, news, SaaS, gym, anything recurring.
The welcome email or last invoice
We use it to find the plan tier, billing date, free-trial status, and the merchant’s retention line.
A clear ask: cancel or renegotiate
“Cancel,” “Downgrade to the cheapest tier,” or “Hold me at the old price.” One sentence is enough.
After the welcome email
The four steps before a single charge moves.
Once your Handfastinbox task opens, we run these four steps in order. You approve at each handoff — the call only goes out after a tap.
- 1
Forward the welcome email (or last invoice)
Drop the merchant’s welcome or billing email into your inbox task. We parse it for the plan name, billing cadence, and any free-trial deadline that matters.
Tip: include any prior cancellation confirmations you still have — they reset retention-script defaults.
- 2
We read the plan, draft a script
We pull your renewal date, the cancellation policy (notice window, prorated refund, free-trial trap), and draft a one-page cancel or retention-ask script tailored to that merchant.
The script is shown to you for approval before the call ever goes out — no surprises.
- 3
We place the call, on your “yes”
Once you approve, we dial the retention line — navigating the menu tree, sitting on hold, and asking to be escalated to the retention team when the first agent pushes back.
Calls run on a recorded line. You can listen live; you can take over at any prompt.
- 4
File the cancellation, log the receipt
We log the call (timestamped transcript), file the cancellation in the merchant’s portal as a backup, and email you a single-line receipt — “Hulu cancelled, $0.00 charged for the final cycle.”
If the agent offers a retention discount you didn’t ask for, we surface it before accepting — and we never accept without your tap.
